Norm Hollingshead’s OperaPlus

Do you love opera?  Then Norm Hollingshead’s OperaPlus may be just what you are looking for.

>>For over thirty years opera aficionado Norm Hollingshead has been delivering his Opera Preview lectures in preparation for each Seattle Opera production. In addition Mr. Hollingshead has for years presented popular Great Singers lectures and other opera-related lectures.  All of Mr. Hollingshead’s lectures  are hosted by the King County Library System, The Kitsap County Library System, the Pierce County Library System and the Sno-Isle Library System.  Using their websites it is easy to get more information on upcoming lectures.  To access Norm’s lecture schedules, click on the “Lectures” menu tab above or visit the Lectures Page.

>>OperaPlus also hosts annual tours to such exciting venues as the Metropolitan Opera, the San Francisco Opera, the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Los Angeles Opera, the Santa Fe Opera, the Portland Opera, and the Vancouver Opera.  For more information on upcoming tours visit the Opera Tours page.

>>OperaPlus also provides performance/recording reviews of recent Seattle Opera productions as well as of opera performances around the world.  To view these reviews, visit either the Essay Page (dedicated to Seattle Opera productions) or the Travel Essays Page (dedicated to reviews of non-Seattle performances).  Comments about the opinions expressed in these performance/travel essays are welcome.

>>In October of 2009 OperaPlus began a partnership with the Metropolitan Opera National Council Northwest Auditions.  Each year the NWMO/NC sponsors several splendid auditions of up-and-coming young opera singers--auditions that are open to the public.  For more information click on  www.metoperanw.com.

>>In December of 2009 OperaPlus began a partnership with the Bellingham Music Festival which mounts an outstanding summer music festival in Bellingham each August as well as splendid concerts during the rest of the year.  For more information click on www.bellinghamfestival.org.

>>In addition, I heartily recommend these wonderful local Opera Production organizations:

  1. 1. PUBLIC OPERA which presents evenings of operatic excerpts performed by outstanding local singers at restaurants in Bellevue and Seattle.  Admission includes a 3 course meal and great opera singing.  You can’t beat it.  Here is their e-mail: info@publicopera.com

  2. 2. VASHON OPERA presents 2 fully-staged operas each season, one in September and one in May.  I try to attend them all.  Their website is: www.vashonopera.org

  3. 3.SKAGIT OPERA presents 2 operas a year.  I have seen none of them though I hear only raves.  I have encouraged Skagit Opera to advertise their shows in a more timely manner so that opera-lovers who live in the Seattle vicinity have time to schedule in a trip to Mt. Vernon for wonderful opera in a great setting.

     Their website is www.skagitopera.org.

>>OPERATIC MT. RUSHMORE:
